The Gloomy Vinyl project highlights Japanese alternative pop artist Aya Gloomy. As a Tokyo native, Gloomy grew up immersed in a colorful and futuristic city that lives in blissful perpetuity. With her child-like spirit that reflects in all aspects of her artistry and sound, Gloomy is obsessed with whimsical symbols like the yellow smiley face, tie-dye flowers, and ethereal aliens. In Gloomy’s EP “Kanjiru”, she speaks about having a special encounter with an otherworldly being. I decided to recreate her “Kanjiru” EP with the simple yet iconic elements that she seems to treasure the most.
